How I became a Nerdfighter

As I said in my last post, I have been watching the vlogbrothers. They are amazing and kinda changed my life. I can't really explain how, but it's there and always will be. I wish I could say that I have been watching since 2007, but I haven't. I started a few months ago when I was bored, but I didn't just jump in. I went all the way back to the first video and watched from there. It took a long time, but I finished today. I am officially caught up. YAY. I think it's pretty cool that I finished today because today is the second day of Project for Awesome. For anyone who doesn't know what that is, go here.
While I will not be doing a video, or even very much for P4A, I wanted to say how awesome I think Nerdfighters are and how they show that so many awesome people can join together and create awesome. Awesome isn't energy or matter. Awesome can be created. And on that note, Best Wishes.
DFTBA!

P.S. I might be making references to them to you might want to watch  some of their videos...

Heheh...

It's been a long time, eh? How many times do I have to apologize? I come bearing news though!
1. I have a new video that isn't too horrible. (see below)
2. The Muppets movie is awesome. Just saw it!
3. I might have two of my friends help with my blog. That would mean more frequent updates/posts.
4. One of the reasons I haven't been posting is that I have been watching Brotherhood 2.0 (aka Vlogbrothers) from the beginning, so I don't miss anything.
5. The other reason is that I have been reading. A LOT. So I am planning to do a post on those soon.
See ya

Books. Many, many books.

This past week I read a lot of books. I also forgot to blog about them as soon as I finished them, so this post is going to be 7 books long and will be slightly different from my other reviews. I will still have the cover picture but not the synopsis. I will say a little blurb about the book and then move on. And I am trying to think of a rating system. If you like this format better than my other one, let me know.
So, first up is...

The Goddess Test by Aimée Carter
BECOME IMMORTAL OR DIE TRYING
A wonderful retelling of one of my favorite myths. You don't quite know what is going to happen until the last chapter. The characters are funny and it is easy to understand Kate's feelings. I recommend it.

Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken
This fantasy takes you to a whole new world. A world that you have never encountered before. It took me a while to get into this beautifully woven (hehe) tale but when I did I didn't want to come back to the real world. Plus, this book has a map. You can't go wrong with mapped books.

Wither by Lauren DeStefano
LOOK AT THE COVER. Now that I've said that, imagine a story that was as pretty and as awesome as the cover. Add into that story forbidden, forced, and unrequited love, humans that have predestined life-spans of 20 (females) and 25 (males), and a wonderfully dystopian future. Now add a little more awesomeness. Your final mental image should be somewhere near what Wither was like for me.

The Iron King by Julie Kagawa
IRON. ICE. A LOVE DOOMED FROM THE START.
After months of my mom saying that she loved this series, I read it. I just want to say that she should have locked me in a room with nothing to do except read this book. This book is hilarious and filled to the brim with sarcasm. If you have a sudden urge to read this book, that is because I am using subliminal messages.

Paper Towns by John Green
Look! More maps! And if we are following what I said earlier about maps, this book can't go wrong. This book starts with an adventure, slips into a mystery, and builds tension as high as the Empire State Building. This is a MUST READ.

The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen
This book is a treat. It is sweet and wonderful and you can't seem to get enough. It is filled with sweets and magic of a small Southern town. Everyone has secrets and in this town the secrets are larger than life.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
I couldn't read this haunting tale fast enough, yet I didn't want it to end. It was beautiful and brimming with desolation. So many things that seem to contradict each other walk hand in hand. I have also decided that authors are getting too good at building tension.

My next read will most likely be rereading both the Secret Series by Pseudonymous Bosch and Night by Elie Wiesel. And to stop any confusion I may have started, the Reading Recommendations page is for you to recommend books that I should read and review.

Virginia Has Trees

I have found that almost anywhere I go in Virginia I will more than likely see a tree. Here are some of the trees I have seen on my Virginian travels.
These are from my trip to around D.C.
TREES!

Stop Lights!

Truck!

Shadow!

Road!

YAY!

Sky!

Hay Bales!

Grass!

And...

TREES!

(Bet you didn't see that one coming...)

Sadly that's all I got from that trip but I also have some from on the way to Fluvanna.
Here we go!
Trees!

Parking Lot!

Church!

Ground!

And... OH NO!

A Fallen Tree!

Leaves!

Sign!

Post!

Trees!

 And look!

The speed limit is 35 mph!

And now from around town.
My Bus Stop at 7AM

yay...

PLASTIC TREE!

and a poster...

but more importantly...

A PLASTIC TREE!!!

HI PLASTIC TREE!!!

It's nice to see you again!!!

Thank you for being so patient for this post :)
I would also like to say a bit about today. I know that I am not old enough to remember what happened on this day ten years ago, but I know how terrifying it was for those of you that do. I felt it would be disrespectful if I didn't say anything, so even though I wasn't truly aware of what happened until last year, I'm sorry for everyone's loss, I admire everyone's bravery and endurance, and I wish I could say more but I can't.

EMERGENCY POST!!!!!!

You know how I promised that I wouldn't post anything else until I did the tree post? Well this post is an exception. I have a really awesome thing to share with you. It's a giveaway that Lauren DeStefano is doing for her new book FEVER (sequel to Wither (my current read)). She will explain all HERE. Now go forth and read her books and do anything else she tells you to do.

grrr...

Hey everyone, I am so sorry I haven't been posting a lot recently. I need to get back into the hang of school and then I will have a much more regular and consistent blog posting schedule thingie... I PROMISE that the next post will be my mega awesome trees post, I just need to collect more trees...

Willow knows she’s different from other girls, and not just because she loves tinkering with cars. Willow has a gift. She can look into the future and know people’s dreams and hopes, their sorrows and regrets, just by touching them. She has no idea where this power comes from. But the assassin, Alex, does. Gorgeous, mysterious Alex knows more about Willow than Willow herself. He knows that her powers link to dark and dangerous forces, and that he’s one of the few humans left who can fight them. When Alex finds himself falling in love with his sworn enemy, he discovers that nothing is as it seems, least of all good and evil. In the first book in an action-packed, romantic trilogy, L..A. Weatherly sends readers on a thrill-ride of a road trip - and depicts the human race at the brink of a future as catastrophic as it is deceptively beautiful.
They’re out for your soul . . . and they don’t have heaven in mind.
The most recent book I read was Angel Burn by L.A. Weatherly. I really enjoyed it and I look forward to reading more. The cover is pretty too...  I just returned it to the library so I can't say much.
The story was told wonderfully and I never doubted that I wasn't gonna like it. I like the way the angels are in this one. It seems as though angels have been steadily getting darker and darker. I was sorta reminded of the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who while I was reading this. No the angels here aren't statues but, they eat human and living things' life forces.
I diverge. What I want to say is I liked it a lot. If you've read it, what did you think? And if you haven't read it, I think you should and then you should answer the other question... Plus the cover is pretty...

See ya later,
JennaRose

And I'm Back... At School

Yup, school started. This will not effect my reading much but, it will effect how often I can post. I hope to do two or three posts a week but it will all depend on what I'm doing. Hope everyone has a great year... starting... NOW!!!

Sweetly! (The actual book review)

As a child, Gretchen's twin sister was taken by a witch in the woods. Ever since, Gretchen and her brother, Ansel, have felt the long branches of the witch's forest threatening to make them disappear, too.
Years later, when their stepmother casts Gretchen and Ansel out, they find themselves in sleepy Live Oak, South Carolina. They're invited to stay with Sophia Kelly, a beautiful candy maker who molds sugary magic: coveted treats that create confidence, bravery, and passion.
Life seems idyllic and Gretchen and Ansel gradually forget their haunted past -- until Gretchen meets handsome local outcast Samuel. He tells her the witch isn't gone -- it's lurking in the forest, preying on girls every year after Live Oak's infamous chocolate festival, and looking to make Gretchen its next victim. Gretchen is determined to stop running and start fighting back. Yet the further she investigates the mystery of what the witch is and how it chooses its victims, the more she wonders who the real monster is.
Gretchen is certain of only one thing: a monster is coming, and it will never go away hungry.

Sweetly. By Jackson Pearce. Great book. Perfect companion.
Last week I read Sweetly and made and informal review. It was not very good. This post is to make up for it.
Sweetly was brilliantly written. I love how it related to Sister's Red and set up the connection between Fathomless and the first two. I loved the contrast between Sister's Red and Sweetly too. How even though they are related they are different enough to tell their own part of the story.
Something that I noticed is that sibling connections play a huge role throughout the series. But it's not just sibling connections, it also includes family connections and relationships that are so close that it feels like sibling or family connection. I love how well Jackson Pearce portrays the relationships between her characters.
To sum up this book, I once again must say: Great book, Perfect companion.
Sweetly is officially out today. I hope you plan to read it.
Happy Birthday Sweetly!
JennaRose
P.S. Sorry, I forgot about the tree post. It will go up soon. Probably tomorrow-ish.

Die For Me

Would you risk your life for love?

My life had always been blissfully, wonderfully normal. But it only took one moment to change everything.
Suddenly, my sister, Georgia, and I were orphans. We put our lives into storage and moved to Paris to live with my grandparents. And I knew my shattered heart, my shattered life, would never feel normal again. Then I met Vincent.
Mysterious, sexy, and unnervingly charming, Vincent Delacroix appeared out of nowhere and swept me off my feet. Just like that, I was in danger of losing my heart all over again. But I was ready to let it happen.
Of course, nothing is ever that easy. Because Vincent is no normal human. He has a terrifying destiny, one that puts his life at risk every day. He also has enemies . . . immortal, murderous enemies who are determined to destroy him and all of his kind.
While I'm fighting to piece together the remnants of my life, can I risk putting my heart—as well as my life and my family's—in jeopardy for a chance at love?

Great book! Great job Amy Plum!!!! I can't wait for the next one!
This book is a truly unique, interesting, and new story. I haven't read anything quite like it before. It has love and loss and made me cry. I have loved every book that has made me cry. But this book also made me extremely happy. All my favorite books can make me happy and sad and worried.
This is a favorite.
I hope that I can find books of equal awesomeness while I wait for more.
Yet again, THANK YOU FOR WRITING A BRILLIANT BOOK! TRULY FANTASTIC!
On a side note, I found out a while ago that Delirium is going to be a trilogy. I can't wait!
See ya soon!

P.S. Next post will be about trees...

RAIN!!!

Today's post was somewhat inspired by this tweet.
Maggie Stiefvater-
"We have gotten approximately fourteen feet of rain in the last three days. What a strange August."

And so, I give you pictures of the rain. They are from last night and today. So, without further ado, I give you... RAIN!!!!
*insert imaginary applause*

The cloudy sky.

Can you see the umbrella?

How about the glare of the lamp?

The TREE???

Do you see the star that cast the shadow?

And look!

A Tree!!!!

*Gasp!*

A combo picture!

Trees and a cloudy sky!

YAY!!!

Ooooooo...

A dark cloud.

Scary.

*cue scary music*

More dark cloud.

*scary music continues*

Oh. Look. A tree.
Hi Tree.

And a picture through a rain covered window

Looking at...

  A stoplight.

And trees.

And, the ultimate picture.
It has:
  • rain
  • stoplight
  • cloudy sky
  • rainy window
  • a house
  • a fire hydrant
  • AND a mirror!!!

This picture has it all.
And it also has... wait for it...
*dramatic pause*
TREES!
Bet you didn't see that one coming...

Delirium

Ninety-five days, and then I'll be safe. I wonder whether the procedure will hurt. I want to get it over with. It's hard to be patient. It's hard not to be afraid while I'm still uncured, though so far the deliria hasn't touched me yet. Still, I worry. They say that in the old days, love drove people to madness. The deadliest of all deadly things: It kills you both when you have it and when you don't.

Delirium. By Lauren Oliver.
This book was absolutely beautiful. It shows the dangers, wonders, and pain of true love. I have seen this book compared to 1984 by George Orwell and other dystopian novels, but the focus of this book is not the dystopian government or world, it is, to me, supposed to show that love cannot be stopped by cruel governments or people that have total faith in the cruel governments. This is one of my favorite reads so far this year and I hope that many people choose to read it. It has a fairly slow start but once the chain of events began I couldn't read it fast enough. I loved the ending and I felt that there is a possibility for another book.

Oh, and one more little tidbit, I put a note in one of the copies at my local library so some people here might actually know me... heh. That will be interesting. Anyway, have you read Delirium? Are you planning to read it? Did you stop reading it b/c of the slow start? Has my review convinced you to give it a try? I know I am asking a lot of questions, but I want to know what you think of the books and my reviews.

hope to hear from you,
JennaRose

P.S. "I love you. Remember. They cannot take it."

P.P.S. A post that might come up soon might feature some playing with food.

P.P.P.S. Read the book. It's good. Really good.

Beautiful Creatures

There were no surprises in Gatlin County.
We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere.

At least, that's what I thought.
Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong.
There was a curse.
There was a girl.
And in the end, there was a grave.

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

I just finished Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. I am planning to read the next one soon..... But back to the book of topic. I thought it was really good and it is one of the only books that I have read from a guy's perspective. It was different but it was a good different. The ending was fantastic and really made way for the second book. The characters were awesome and had a sense of humor that I liked. The authors did a good job of portraying the characters personalities. I really enjoyed this book and I would definitely recommend it. What did you think of it? Hope to hear your thoughts.

i am late

hi all. i meant to post on friday but i forgot... sorry. sadly i don't have any pictures of my piercing, but i can say that is awesome. i will upload pictures as soon as i find my ipod which has vanished into narnia.

onto other news, i saw hp7.2 on saturday and it was... amazing. wonderful. heartbreaking. simply great. all these words describe how amazing this movie was. i can say with certainty that if a movie or book can make me cry i will love it.

onto even more other news, next week from july 31- august 6 i will not be posting anything beccause i will be at hogwarts myself. it is an amazing camp brought to life by amazing volunteers (whom i love). this will be my second year going and i can not wait.

and this is my last more news. i have recently read and watched beastly by alex flinn. i loved the book. i think the story was told brilliantly and the characters are amusing. the movie on the other hand did not fit the image i created while i was reading the book. i felt that they cut out some of the best and/or important details. have you read the book? seen the movie? what did u think? i hope to hear your point of view.

it is really late right now so...
until next time,
JennaRose

i heart dumplings!!!

i have recently discovered my love for marco and luca's dumplings. i don't think it's a chain so you might not ever get to taste them so i pity you. but i took some pictures while i was there because i think their decorating skills are... well... interesting.

first up is a chandelier...
that is covered with x-mas lights.
and some beautiful lamp shades...
that were stacked together on a shelf.

nearby there was a lion...

knocker on the wall.

an oddly placed piano

and i have no clue why it was there.

and last but certainly not least, a stunning, breath-taking, amazing...
.....
....
...
..
.
rainbow, color-sphere, disco thingie.

if only their decor was as good as their dumplings...

oh well.

until next time

when gummies attack

so i got a small pouch full of gummies yesterday. the animals included were two octopi, two penguins, and many dinosaurs.

here is a picture of some of the cast:

i also had a bit of trouble telling the octopus not to eat the headless penguin...
 (sorry headless penguin)

and this is the video i made with them
hope u think its funny.
see ya later,
JennaRose
*one gummy octopus, one gummy penguin, and three gummy dinos were harmed in the making of this post and video.
